What is ABA?
Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) is a scientific approach to understanding and improving behaviour. It focuses on how learning happens and uses specific techniques to teach new skills efficiently. By breaking tasks into smaller, manageable steps, ABA helps children learn effectively.
For example, if a child is learning to draw, we teach each step individually, such as hold the pencil properly, use appropriate force to draw straight lines and curse, draw simple shapes, then use the shapes to create an object.
It's evidence-based
Scientific evidence proves that the environment affects our behaviour and what we could do to change the environment and brings out different behaviour with different strategies of ABA such as reinforcement, extinction, shaping, generalisation to increase desirable and appropriate behaviour and decrease non-preferred behaviour.
Why ABA?
ABA therapy aim to help individuals make meaningful changes to improve their lives. We teach practical skills like communication, learning skills, social interaction, daily living activities and life skills, that are functional and effective for the learner. For example, it is not practical to teach a 12 year old to play with play-doh but it would be practical to teach a kindergartener to play with it. That’s why it’s highly individualised.
Who is it for?
ABA is for anyone! It can benefit anyone looking to improve various skills, from toddlers to adults. Whether it’s helping a child with speech development or teaching an adult new job skills, ABA offers strategies for a wide range of needs.
At our centre, we focus on kindergarten to primary school age children, tailoring programs to each child’s unique needs. We assess their current abilities and create personalised plans to help them reach their goals. This individualised approach ensures that every child receives the support and motivation they need to succeed.
